Recently, two products from Ben Tre province, green-skinned pomelo and green Siamese coconut, have officially been granted protection certificates in the form of certification marks by the Canadian Intellectual Property Office.

This is an important step in enhancing the brand value of agricultural products from Ben Tre province in particular and Vietnam in general on the International stage.
The Canadian Intellectual Property Office has simultaneously granted exclusive protection to both trademarks: the “Ben Tre Pomelo & Device” trademark for green pomelo (registration number TMA1,257,893) and the “Ben Tre Coconut & Device” trademark for green Siamese coconut (registration number TMA1,257,904). The Department of Science and Technology of Ben Tre province is recognized as the owner of these two certification trademarks.

Geographical indications and certification marks are intellectual property assets, and also effective legal tools to not only prevent infringement but also to create a foundation for the province’s agricultural products to bear the name “BEN TRE” when exported globally.
Therefore, Ben Tre chose a market with world-leading high standards like Canada to build a brand for its local agricultural products.
The successful protection of intellectual property rights for “Ben Tre green-skinned pomelo” and “Ben Tre green Siamese coconut” not only acknowledges the tireless efforts of the entire Ben Tre province in affirming the quality and characteristics of these products on the international stage, but also opens new doors for regional economic development, especially in the field of agricultural exports.
In the coming period, Ben Tre province needs to continue investing strongly in improving product quality and expanding markets, while strengthening marketing strategies to promote the “Ben Tre” brand widely, contributing to building the image of Vietnam as a country producing high-quality agricultural products on the world map.
