Green-skinned pomelo – The sweet and wholesome flavor from the orchards of Tien Giang.
Famous throughout the Mekong Delta, the green-skinned pomelo boasts a round, plump shape with a distinctive dark peel. Although originally from Ben Tre, when brought to the fertile Cai Be region of Tien Giang, this fruit has fully absorbed the essence of the soil along the Tien River. Unlike other varieties with a tangy sour taste, the green-skinned pomelo grown here leaves a lasting impression with its delicate, refreshing sweetness.

Each segment of the pomelo boasts a captivating reddish-pink hue, tightly packed together yet easily separated from the membrane. A gentle bite releases a burst of juice, carrying a subtle, delicate aroma. Enjoying a delicious green pomelo is the perfect way to fully appreciate the refreshing, rustic, and authentic essence of agricultural produce from the Mekong Delta.
The characteristics that make up the quality of green pomelos from our home garden.
A top-quality green pomelo typically feels substantial in the hand, ranging from 1.2kg to 2.5kg. The outer peel is quite thin, only about ten millimeters thick, gently encasing the plump flesh. Connoisseurs often tap the peel lightly; a dull “thump” sound indicates a dense, juicy pulp.
Thanks to the year-round deposition of fertile alluvial soil, the pomelo orchards in Tien Giang always produce fruit of consistent quality, with the peel retaining its beautiful vibrant green color even when fully ripe. The biggest advantage that makes them so popular with consumers is that the segments are almost seedless, providing a more complete and seamless eating experience.

Beneath its vibrant green peel lies a rich source of vitamin C, acting as a natural barrier protecting the body from common colds. The segments of the pink-fleshed green grapefruit are high in fiber and low in calories, making them ideal for detoxifying the body, maintaining a healthy figure, and supporting smooth digestive function. This gentle fruit provides a rich source of minerals and is safe for pregnant women and young children as part of their weaning diet.

To preserve their delicate flavor, freshly harvested green pomelos only need to be stored in a dry, well-ventilated corner of the house, away from the intense sunlight. Intact fruits can maintain their freshness for several weeks without any complicated preservation methods. It’s especially important not to wash the fruit immediately if not intending to use it, as this will cause the peel to absorb water and spoil more quickly. For peeled pomelo segments, carefully wrapping them in plastic wrap and refrigerating them will help retain their sweet, juicy flavor for a few days.
